Vietnam’s leading private conglomerate, Vingroup, has officially commenced construction of the Hai Phong LNG Power Plant, the largest project of its kind in the country, with an investment of VND178 trillion ($6.7 bn). The groundbreaking ceremony, held on September 26 in Hai Phong, was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. 

Developed by Vingroup in partnership with VinEnergo Energy JSC, a subsidiary of the group, the plant will occupy nearly 100 hectares. Once fully operational, it will have a total installed capacity of 4,800 MW, divided into two phases: 1,600 MW in the first phase and 3,200 MW in the second. 

According to Tuoi Tre News, the facility is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2030, producing an estimated 9.6 bn kWh annually during the first phase, doubling to 19.2 bn kWh in the second. Under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII, the Hai Phong project is set to become one of the largest LNG-to-power plants globally.
